    UK removes Pakistan from list of ‘high risk’ countries

    The United Kingdom on Monday removed Pakistan from its list of “high risk” countries, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari tweeted.
    “Some good news. The United Kingdom has officially removed Pakistan from its list of ‘High Risk Third Countries’ following our early completion of FATF action plans,” the minister wrote in a tweet.

    “His Majesty’s Treasury issued an amendment to the UK’s High-Risk Third Countries’ list ON November 14, 2022, through a Statuary Instrument. The amendment removes Pakistan from the list in accordance with the decision taken by the FATF on October 21, 2022,” the official document read.

    “The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office recognizes the progress Pakistan has made to improve money laundering and terrorist financing controls,” it further added.


    The UK government included Pakistan to its list of 21 high-risk nations with inadequate measures in place to combat money laundering and terrorism funding in April 2021.

    Pakistan will be one of the first initial recipients of the Global Shield funding that will be provided to countries hit by climate disasters.
    The Global Shield will build support to be deployed in nations like Pakistan, Ghana, Fiji, and Senegal. It is supported by 170 million euros ($175 million) in funding from Germany and 40 million euros ($41 million) from additional contributors including Denmark and Ireland.The Global Shield was officially launched on November 14, 2022 at the COP27 climate conference.


    Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Fiji, Ghana, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Senegal were identified as some of the earliest beneficiaries of Global Shield supplies in a statement released by Germany on Monday.

    Germany stated that these packages would be created in the upcoming months.

    As many as 33 million people of the 220 million in the South Asian nation have been affected in some way by recent monsoon floods that swept away houses, roads, railways and bridges and submerged around 4 million acres of farmland.

    Pakistan lost to England in the final of the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground after posting up a low total. England chased down Pakistan’s 137-8 with five wickets in hand and six balls to spare.

    But despite the heartbreak, much support has been extended to the Pakistani team.

    Babar Azam, the captain of Team Pakistan, tweeted, “Couldn’t be more proud of my pack.”

    We saw Twitterati praise the spectacular game played by our boys in green.

    Khan called his winning ‘92 World Cup team, the ‘cornered tigers’. For Babar, the team that came so very close are the ‘true warriors’. And we couldn’t agree more. Pakistan lost the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup today to England after only scoring 137 runs, a low total but one that was not easily defended by the English batters. Pakistani batters may have struggled but our bowlers made even a low total like 137 difficult to score for the English team despite England’s strong batting lineup. It was bad luck for Pakistan in many ways. Not only were we 20 runs short but the way Stokes had nine lives (or more) and Shaheen Afridi’s injury just before his two crucial overs at the end made the loss even more heartbreaking for our Boys in Green who went all-out to win the final at the MCG today.

    It was indeed a heartbreaking moment for Pakistanis across the world as we came quite close to lifting the trophy but at the same time, we should celebrate the fact that we reached the final despite all odds and performed brilliantly. Our batting strategy leaves much to be desired, especially when it comes to difficult pitches. On the bowling front, from Haris Rauf to Naseem to Shadab to Shaheen Afridi, our bowlers put in their hearts to win the game. Alas, we couldn’t but our players did all they could.


    The way that Pakistan managed to reach the semi-finals when they had been written off clearly shows that our boys have what it takes to be a world-class team. In today’s game, we lost a toss that went in England’s favour. A World Cup final also comes with its pressure but our team did not show any jitters and were ready to defend a small total. Our batters did not perform as well as they could have and hit unnecessary shots to lose wickets when we shouldn’t have. To rely solely on the bowlers without giving them a defendable total may have been a bit much to ask but our bowlers did not disappoint and played splendidly well. They tried their best and got early wickets but luck favoured the English today. Known for playing a clinical game, the English seemed worried when our bowlers hit the right line and length.


    England was always going to be a tough team to play against given their performance throughout the tournament. And England did not disappoint. They bowled well and restricted Pakistan to a small total. But we can say that the best team — Pakistan — outperformed in the end. Even then, Babar Azam’s Playing XI has made the entire nation proud for playing almost till the last over. Pakistan cricket united the country in cheering for our cricket team at a time when we need unity the most.

    Pakistan lost to England in the final of the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground after posting up a meagre total.
    England chased down Pakistan’s 137-8 with five wickets in hand and six balls to spare.


    The defeat has left many Pakistanis heartbroken, who were looking for a replay of the 1992 final. Soon after the match ended, Pakistani fast bowler Shadab Khan took to twitter to apologise to Pakistanis.

    “Thank you to all the fans of Pakistan for your constant support. We gave it our all but couldn’t win the trophy for you. Sorry to let you down. We will try to improve as a team and come back even stronger. Never stop believing, your belief makes us stronger,” the 24-year- old bowler wrote in the tweet.

    Pakistani Skipper Babar Azam offered congratulations to the English side in the post- match ceremony. “Congratulations to the England team, we felt like everyone came here to support us, thank you so much,” said Azam, addressing fans.


    “The way the team has gone in the last four matches [was] incredible. I told the boys to play their natural game, with freedom.

    “We were 20 runs short [in the final] but to fight to the last over was unbelievable. Our bowling is one of the best but unfortunately Shaheen’s injury cost us a different result, but that’s part of the game,” he concluded.

    Despite an increase from month to month in October, the total number of cars sold fell by 47 per cent to 39,700 units in 4MFY23 from 74,952 units as a result of increased prices, restrictions on auto financing and part imports, and high interest rates.

    However, the number of cars sold in October increased to 11,129 from 9,213 in September, a significant decrease from the 17,413 sold in October 2021.

    Assemblers have been allowed to hand over automobiles after the release of auto parts from the port as a result of the State Bank’s decision to increase the import quota, which led to a recovery in car sales as well as production in October.

    Honda Civic/City sales decreased to 6,416 units in 4MFY23 from 10,444 units during the same period in FY22, while Toyota Corolla and Yaris sales significantly decreased to 8,253 units from 19,214 units. Sales of the Suzuki Cultus and WagonR decreased from 11,454 to 6,779 units to 2,952 and 2,181 respectively. Sales of the Suzuki Bolan and Alto were unchanged at 1,469 and 13,464 units, compared to 4,012 and 20,773 units in 4MFY22.

    Jeep and pickup sales decreased by 45 percent, from 14,969 units in the same period last fiscal year to 8,234 units in July-October FY23.

    Additionally, the total number of tractors sold decreased by 47 per cent, from 17,386 units to 9,258 units, indicating a decline in agricultural activity.

    Compared to 2,011 and 184 units sold in 4MFY22, trucks and buses showed sales of 1,109 and 210 units, respectively.

    Sales of two and three-wheelers in the country fell dramatically, from 629,212 units in the same period last year to 412,111 units in the first four months of the current fiscal year.

    Daily Mail defamation case: UK court directs PM Shehbaz to deposit nearly Rs8 million

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was ordered by London High Court to deposit £30,000 (Rs7.8 million or almost Rs80 lac) through his lawyer by November 23 after the premier’s advocates applied unilaterally to the court to withdraw the stay application in favour of the trial proceedings to go ahead in Daily Mail defamation case, reports Geo News.

    This “stay” was agreed between all parties — Daily Mail publishers, Shehbaz Sharif and his son-in-law Imran Ali Yousaf — in agreement but then Shehbaz Sharif’s lawyers decided to withdraw the “stay” just ahead of the case management hearing where the dates for the trials were to be set.

    The purpose of the costs and case management hearing is to set directions for the case to proceed to trial and to consider the parties’ costs budgets, i.e. their estimated costs of the proceedings to a conclusion.

    The court has also asked Sharif’s lawyers to submit a comprehensive reply to Daily Mail’s defence within a month or the case could be struck out.

    Earlier, PM Shehbaz’s request for an indefinite adjournment, in this case, was denied by a court. The court had said that if PM Shahbaz and Imran fail to respond to Daily Mail’s lawyers in court, they would have to pay the defendant all the cost of the legal proceedings.

    In July 2019, renowned media law firm Carter-Ruck sued British newspaper The Mail on Sunday, online news site Mail Online and its journalist David Rose on behalf of Shehbaz Sharif for publishing a “politically motivated” article. The story, published on July 14, 2019, had suggested that Shehbaz and Yousaf “stole British taxpayers’ money” given to Earthquake Relief and Reconstruction Authority (ERRA) set up to help the victims of the 2005 Pakistan earthquake.

    Earlier this year, London High Court ruled that the article by reporter Rose carried the highest level of defamation (Chase level 1 – the highest form of defamation in English law) against both Shehbaz Sharif and his son-in-law.

    Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that Khurram and his brother Waqar, who were hosting slain journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya, conspired with local police to kill the newsman.

    “This is a joint conspiracy of Waqar, Khurram and five Kenyan police officers,” said the federal minister on Geo News programme “Geo Pakistan” adding that the murder was a “target killing”.

    The interior minister said that Sharif went to Kenya from Dubai on Waqar’s sponsorship and he was staying in his flat. He also said that Waqar helped Sharif in getting an online visa.

    It is pertinent to mention that when Sharif was shot, Khurram was with him, driving the car, however, he was not injured by police gunfire and remained unharmed.

    “We have the record of everything including why Sharif went to Waqar’s house and stayed as a guest,” claimed the minister. He also revealed that Waqar is not being named in the case because the commission has yet to go and look into these matters.

    During the interview, Sanaullah said that Sharif didn’t want to leave the country.

    The interior minister said that he would request Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif to talk to the Kenyan president again because the Kenyan police are “not cooperating”.

    Earlier in the week, “On the Front” host Kamran Shahid unearthed details of the murder on his show, stating, “At eight o clock on the night of October 23, Arshad Sharif was shot while sitting in the car with Khurram, who drove him [Arshad Sharif] via a long route instead of the usual one on the day the anchorperson was martyred.”

    The government is expected to introduce 5G in July 2023 instead of next month.

    Syed Amin ul Haq, the minister of information technology and telecommunications, said that the effort would help further expand the IT industry and its export at an exponential rate while announcing the new date.

    Speaking at a ceremony for the UBIT Career Fest 2022, which was put on by the University of Karachi’s Department of Computer Science, the minister expressed confidence that the new deadline for the introduction of 5G technology would be met without further delay.

    “Our IT industry has already witnessed robust growth,” he said. “As compared to the other 43 ministries of Pakistan, the highest increase in exports has been registered by the IT and telecommunication sector. The exports of other ministries increased by 2 to 3 per cent only over the last couple of years while the exports of IT and telecom jumped by 47.44 per cent during the same period. “It reflects the potential which we need to capitalise on,” the minister remarked.

    The young IT graduates can seize the expanding opportunities being offered by the IT companies amid huge funding of $373 million from the government for the startups, he claimed, demonstrating that future job needs can be met with the cooperation of industry and universities.

    A man in Lahore allegedly killed the five-year-old nephew of a girl he had fallen in love with to delay her marriage, Samaa has reported. The shocking murder took place in the Badami Bagh area of Lahore.


    Five-year-old Ayaan’s body was discovered by police, hanging from a railroad track.

    “The minor was the nephew of the girl whom the suspect, Zeeshan aka Guddu, wanted to marry,” said the Police.


    “The nikkah ceremony was scheduled to be performed the day after the suspect allegedly kidnapped the child,” police added.
    According to investigators, the suspect killed the boy by beating him beside the railroad tracks.

    The police further stated that the victim and the suspect, Zeeshan aka Guddu, both lived in the same area.

    The police have registered a case and started an investigation.
