    The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has said that a central leader of the party, Iftikhar Durrani, went “missing” from Islamabad on Thursday.
    PTI said in a statement that the core member of the party was “kidnapped” from the capital city of the country.

    Iftikhar Durrani, a former special assistant on media to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was considered a close aide of the PTI chairman.

    Despite the passage of multiple hours, as yet there is still no information about the PTI leader’s whereabouts.

    PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari strongly condemned the “abduction” of Iftikhar Durrani.

    PTI may be considered ineligible for election symbol, warns ECP

    The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has cautioned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that it may be found ineligible to receive an election symbol due to its failure to hold intra-party elections.

    ECP summoned PTI Chairman Imran Khan to appear before it on August 4 (Friday) at 10 am, “failing which the Commission under Section 215 (5) of the Elections Act, 2017, may declare your political party ineligible to obtain election symbol for future election(s)”.

    According to previous notices, the PTI’s intra-party elections were scheduled for June 13, 2021, according to the party’s constitution. PTI was informed/reminded to hold intra-party elections within the timeframe specified in sections 208, 209, and 215 of the Elections Act of 2017, but the party failed to “provide the requisite certificate to this effect.”

    The ECP had instructed parties to include a list of symbols they prioritize with their applications, as well as the signature of the party head.

    “Every application must include the address of the head office of the political party,” the election commission said.

    Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarrar, has confirmed that the government will not pursue the Violent Extremism Bill, shifting the blame for the legislation on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), The News has reported.

    Seeking to distance his government from the bill, which seeks to ban any organisation which resorts to violence from contesting elections, Tarrar said that the bill was drafted by the PTI government including every full stop and comma.

    However, the current government has decided against introducing the bill,” he said, speaking in Geo News programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath’, adding that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had advised them against drafting such legislation in haste.

    On Sunday, the bill was dropped by Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, who halted further proceedings following opposition by senators. Sanjrani said that the government should reconsider the bill.

    The bill was termed “dangerous for democracy” by senators, including those from the treasury benches.

    Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa “stabbed” him in the back.

    Talking to Geo’s Haider Shirazi on camera at a court, Imran Khan said of the former army head, “I have been saying this, he stabbed me in the back.”

    “People say, ‘You must have done something.’ I did nothing. He [General Bajwa] was already planning to get an extension, he was thinking ahead,” the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said.

    “That conspiracy is obvious,” he stated.

    Since his removal from power through a Vote of No Confidence in April 2022, Khan has attacked the former Army Chief many times in public rallies and interviews. However, the current Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt. General Nadeem Anjum alleged in a press conference held last year that the PTI government offered Bajwa an extension in March 2022 for “an indefinite period of time” if he would save the government from being ousted.

    Khan has denied the allegations.

    Former KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan gets expelled by PTI

    After joining the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTI-P), the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday terminated the membership of the former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Mahmood Khan.


    Wilson Wazeer, Ishtia Urmar, Iqbal Wazeer, Yaqoob Sheikh, and Shafiq Afridi, all former KP legislators, have also been dismissed from the PTI.
    Days after being expelled from the PTI earlier this month, Pervez Khattak, a former close aide to Imran Khan, founded PTI-Parliamentarians.
    On announcing the launch of the new party, the former defense minister condemned the attacks of May 9.


    “Our existence is directly linked to that of Pakistan. PTI is now completely finished in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” the former provincial chief minister said.


    Two other close aides, Jahangir Tareen and Aleem Khan, along with other individuals, founded the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party last month.

    The economic performance of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has been criticised by Shabbar Zaidi, one of its own highest ranking officials.

    In an interview with Geo News’ Shahzeb Khanzada, Zaidi said that Pakistan would have economically collapsed had the PTI government continued.

    “Had this […] government continued, the party would not have even secured 5% votes as the country would have economically collapsed,” the former Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) head, appointed with much fanfare at the time by Imran Khan, said on the show.

    Accusing the then-Prime Minister of not “listening” to anyone who was offering advice to rectify the government’s shortcomings, Zaidi said that Imran Khan did remove Asad Umar as Finance Minister when told of the government’s poor performance.

    He narrated an incident where 40 parliamentarians, led by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, barged into his office after he “mistakenly” sent a tax notice to a landlord in Multan.

    He also accused Asad Qaiser, the former Speaker of the National Assembly of preventing the tobacco industry in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from being brought into the tax net.

    “You cannot do this…you cannot enter our areas,” Qaiser told Zaidi.

    Shabbar Zaidi was the head of FBR from 2019 till 2020.

    SC refuses Khan’s plea to pause trial court proceedings in the Toshakhana case

    The Supreme Court (SC) rejected former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s petition on Wednesday to pause trial court proceedings in the Toshakhana case.

    The former prime minister went to the apex court when he didn’t get relief from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Toshakhana case.

    Last year, on October 21, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case for making “false statements and incorrect declarations.”

    The trial court said on July 8 that ECP’s plea is defensible and further proceeded against the former Prime Minister Imran Khan. After that, Imran Khan approached the SC for relief.

    A two-member SC bench heard the case today. Justice Yahya Afridi remarked that the SC will not interfere in the matters of the trial court.

    He further said that it’s not within the SC’s jurisdiction to hear the petition while the case is already in the IHC.

    “Court’s jurisdiction is a major issue, it should be decided first,” the justice remarked.

    Federal Minister for Defence, Khwaja Asif, found himself yet again at the center of a controversy after he passed derogatory comments about female legislators of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

    After being criticized by PTI parliamentarians on the “bulldozing” of bills in the assembly, Asif spoke up and reminded the opposition of their government’s tenure when bills were similarly bulldozed through the lower House.

    “Depraved women should not lecture on chastity,” he said, then stated that if he responds, the “woman card” will be used against him.

    Asif then went on to call the women the “remains” and “ruins” of Imran Khan, pointing towards the benches where Senators Zarqa Suharwardy Taimur, Sania Nishtar, Falak Naz Chitrali and Fawzia Arshad were sitting.

    “This is the garbage that has to be cleaned,” he remarked.

    His comments were met by fierce protests by PTI female parliamentarians.

    Raja Pervez Ashraf, the Speaker of the National Assembly, then expunged the word “garbage” from the speech.

    Asif, who has in the past been accused of misogynistic comments, most notably against PTI leader Shireen Mazari, has been slammed by commentators and politicians for the speech.

    Imran Khan to be indicted in ECP contempt case in August

    The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) postponed the indictment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan till August 2 in a contempt case filed against him, Geo News has reported.

    The ECP had on Monday ordered that the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) be arrested and presented before the ECP in a case in which he allegedly used “”intemperate” language against the constitutional body and the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

    A four-member bench, headed by Nisar Durrani, heard the case.

    One of the members of the bench said that the commission will frame the charge against the former PM on August 2, and the bench directed that Imran Khan should appear in person at the next hearing.

    Earlier last year, the ECP issued contempt notices in exercise of its powers of contempt, against PTI chief Imran Khan and party leaders for allegedly using “intemperate” language against the chief election commissioner and ECP. The electoral body asked them to appear in person or through their counsel before the commission to explain their position.

    During today’s hearing, Imran Khan’s lawyer, Shaheen Sohail, requested to adjourn the hearing until September.

    “We have only one month of vacation, and since you asked for a personal appearance, we have appeared”, Shaheen said.

    He further added, “Earlier, there were other lawyers on this case; now, I am the lawyer. This is my first appearance.”

    Court accepts petition declaring Imran Khan’s sisters and PTI leaders absconders

    An anti-terrorism court in Lahore has accepted a petition filed by the police to declare Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s sisters and other PTI leaders ‘absconders’ for not cooperating with the ongoing investigation related to the May 9 riots cases.

    Police told the court that PTI leaders are not cooperating with the investigation and are currently in hiding. According to the police, those PTI leaders are involved in the May 9 riots.

    The police, therefore, pleaded with the court to declare the aforementioned individuals “absconders”.

    The court has initiated the process with Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan, Aslam Iqbal, Hammad Azhar, Farrukh Habib, Murad Saeed, Zubair Niazi, Hassaan Niazi, Ali Amin Gandapur, Azam Swati, Andleeb Abbas and others named in the plea.

    On the other hand, the court has also extended the judicial remand of PTI’s senior leaders, including Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhary, and former Punjab governor Umar Sarfraz Cheema.

    The court has also directed the police to submit challans against them at the next hearing.
