Trending Pakistani dramas: What’s hot on TV in 2024

If you’re here for a quick update on your weekly drama watch, you’re in the right place. Without further ado, let’s get started on the week in dramas!

    Zard Patton Ka Bunn

Kashf Foundation’s project’s latest episode focused on important conversations. Meenu discussed with her friend how educated mothers can raise better generations. She said, “Parh likh kar naslen banani hain (Atom bomb nahi). If my mother was educated, she would have brought up my brothers better so they wouldn’t stand in the way of my education.” We agree with Meenu.

    Gentleman

Love-struck Rehmati and Iqbal Munna need to watch out! Seeing Iqbal Munna and Zarnab together was great, but is their love story moving too fast? Iqbal Munna’s crush on Zarnab was cute, but now Rehmati is also in love, making it complicated. Remember, Zarnab still loves Faris—for now! We’re unsure if Gentleman will focus more on Korangi’s drama or Zarnab’s love life, but Zarnab’s story seems stronger. Rehmati and Munna might have a chance as the plot thickens. Faris seems more focused on his job than Zarnab’s activism. Who will she choose?

    Pas e Deewar

Pas e Deewar stands out with intense storytelling and fast-paced action. What happens next is anyone’s guess! Shabbir disappointed us by playing Ujala. The plot thickens as Maqbool sets up his sister, and we’re eager to see how Iftikhar reacts. The drama gets points for the scene where Ujala escapes Hamid’s advances—an intense and well-done moment. Hashim’s evil wrath contrasted with Shabbir’s calm, wicked planning is interesting to watch.

    Jaan e Jahan

Oh, Jaan e Jahan! The emotions are real. Shehraam has Mahnoor’s heart and also the hearts of many viewers. He’s the hero and has finally reunited with his beloved Chooriyan. We hope the days are not far behind. The simple yet heartwarming elements of Mahnoor and Shehraam’s bond are pure love. Tabraiz, despite his evil plans, won our hearts—a tragic fate indeed. But the question remains: will Aliya and Abdul tie up their incomplete love story, or will it end in heartbreak? We’re eager to find out in the final episode.

    Burns Road Kay Romeo Juliet

Farhaad, the pain of being an only son, we feel you! As Farhaad and Freeya grow apart, their journey must continue to find a resolution. Watching Farhaad’s regrets about a conversation he never had with his father was painful. Even more painful were his torn emotions between his mother, wife, and job; his mental struggle was clear and brought us to tears. Kiran’s silent battle must end in triumph. She now holds the key to her father’s restaurant, and we hope this realization empowers her. Stand up, Kiran; your family needs you. More importantly, other girls who might be in your situation are watching you. You need to help yourself first before others can help you. Speak up now, please. The drama is in its 25th episode, and you’re losing precious time!

  • ‘Noor Jahan’ teases audiences with a new toxic saas in Pakistani drama world

‘Noor Jahan’ teases audiences with a new toxic saas in Pakistani drama world

The Pakistani drama scene has long been known for its saas-bahu narratives, but recently, there’s been a shift. New dramas now explore love stories, ambitious characters, complex love triangles, toxic relationships, and mental health issues. This evolving landscape brings us the trailer for Noor Jahan. However, is it bringing back the Saas-Bahu drama we thought we were done with?

At first glance, ‘Noor Jahan’ seems like typical drama. But the teaser suggests something different. It introduces Noor Jahan, a powerful woman who rules her family with an iron fist. No one dares to disobey her. Yet, beneath this strict exterior, hidden tensions and desires may be brewing. The trailer hints at a clash between tradition and modernity.

    Watch the trailer here:

Tumhain kese laga tum meri jagah per beth sakti ho? Baghair meri ijazat ke?

Noor Jahan appears to be the typical domineering mother-in-law, scrutinising every move of her daughter-in-law. Her critical eye and constant interrogation make everyday life challenging. From attire to meal timings, nothing escapes her judgement.

Saba Hamid takes on the familiar role of a tough mother-in-law, a part she often plays. However, there’s hope she’ll bring a new perspective to this character. With Kubra Khan leading the cast, there’s anticipation for a fresh take on the daughter-in-law role. The teaser shows tension and drama, but ‘Noor Jahan’ needs more than just the usual saas trope to capture today’s audience.

Despite the saas-bahu angle, ‘Noor Jahan’ holds promise due to its impressive cast. Zoya Nasir, Alina Abbas, and Hajra Yamin also bring their talents to the ensemble.

  • Sonya Hussyn and Sami Khan shine in ‘Aik Chubhan Si’

Sonya Hussyn and Sami Khan shine in ‘Aik Chubhan Si’

It’s too early to know where ‘Aik Chubhan Si’ will go, but with Sonya Hussyn and Sami Khan on screen, there’s more to the story than meets the eye. Here’s why we’re giving this one a go.

The story is different from the usual stuff on screen. There’s no love story with our hero and heroine falling in love at first sight. This Pakistani drama is about post-marital (non-marital) bliss. Naila and Haroon are happily married, but we see a husband who’s not too happy to serve Naila’s family. However, the story’s subtle and relatable details keep us watching.

Naila insists on looking after her uncle because he raised her. Haroon agrees, but reluctantly, with no toxicity (yet) in his attitude. There’s curiosity about Maheen, played by Hira Khan, as her character seems to have more to reveal, especially in the final scene of the first episode. Is there a hint of mystery, thrill, or something else in the drama? The first episode sets the stage and keeps us intrigued to learn more.

As the drama unfolds quickly, we hope the story won’t fall into the trap of overly stretched plots and typical ‘other woman’ conspiracies.
Sonya Hussyn and Sami Khan share great on-screen chemistry. If you’re a fan of this couple, then Aik Chubhan Si is a drama you should try. They appear comfortable on screen and make their characters believable and true to life. Their effortless interactions make the drama more enjoyable to watch.

Fahad Sheikh plays Moiz, Hira’s cousin, and his performance here is a step up from his past roles. Whether it’s the direction or Fahad’s acting, his character evokes sympathy, even in the first episode. We’re looking forward to more from him. Hira Khan’s character seems a bit toxic, but we hope she will prove to be more complex and interesting.

‘Aik Chubhan Si’ is written by Rukhsana Nigar and directed by Mohsin Talat. The cast features Sonya Hussyn, Sami Khan, Asma Abbas, Hira Khan, Fahad Sheikh, and others.

  • Jaan Nisar: more intriguing than it first appears

Jaan Nisar: more intriguing than it first appears

‘Jaan Nisar,’ a project by 7th Sky Entertainment, is led by the talented duo Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi. This new drama airs on Geo Entertainment and has kicked off with three episodes, hinting at a storyline that’s deeper than it first appears.

Dua, played by the versatile Hiba Bukhari, is a young girl with big dreams. Unlike the typical obedient and practical sisters, Dua loves dancing and dreams of exotic meals instead of the usual desi dishes. She hopes for someone who can help her achieve her dreams, though she’s not just a “fortune seeker.”

Enter Nosherwan, a dark, mysterious, and no-nonsense guy, portrayed by Danish Taimoor. He seems like the perfect drama hero, but there may be more to his character than meets the eye.

On the other side, Dua shares a seemingly love-struck story with Faraz, played by Haroon Shahid. Nosherwan notices Dua on two occasions and seems intrigued, though he hasn’t admitted it to himself yet.

But there’s a twist: Nosherwan was forced to marry his brother’s widow, Kashmala, a role he’s uncomfortable with as he always saw her as a sister-in-law. The past haunts him and drives him to do good deeds, like protecting women in his village.
The drama also teases a mystery about Nosherwan’s brother’s death and Dua’s strict father, who has a dubious character.

‘Jaan Nisar’ airs on Geo Entertainment every Friday to Sunday at 8:00 p.m. The cast includes Danish Taimoor, Hiba Bukhari, Haroon Shahid, Sajid Hasan, Hina Bayat, Mahmood Aslam, Dania Enwer, Kinza Malik, Hiba Ali, Sajeeruddin Khalifa, Humaira Bano, and Ellie Zaid.

  • Revenge is blind and Zamda proved it

Revenge is blind and Zamda proved it

The story of ‘Khaie’ by Saqlain Abbas has reached its conclusion with its 29th episode. Departing from the usual Saas Bahu and love triangle sagas, ‘Khaie’ brought a fresh flavor to television with its unique plot, outstanding acting, and excellent execution.

Zamda fulfills her promise to her mother by seeking revenge against all her enemies, with the last target being Chanaar Khan.

After the murder of Duraab Khan, Zamda’s path towards targeting Chanaar was cleared. Khan is grieving the loss of his son and now has to bury his father. Despite Chanaar’s grief, he blindly trusts Zamda, unaware of her ulterior motives. Zamda offers Chanaar intoxicated tea and convinces him to accompany her to her father and brother’s graves. However, Chanaar is shocked to find a freshly dug grave at the cemetery, realizing too late that he has been a victim of revenge all along.

People tend to think of women as weak and unintelligent. Chanar also fell prey to the trope by undermining her at first and then trusting her blindly while an educated, self-empowered woman like Zamda is an example that women are much more capable of what they seem to be.

Faysal Quraishi delivers a captivating performance as Chanaar Khan, effectively portraying his emotions, especially in the pivotal moment when he realizes Zamda’s true intentions. Zamda proceeds to fulfill her revenge by killing Chanaar and sparing his innocent son from her wrath, showing a glimpse of her humanity amidst her thirst for vengeance. The story concludes with a flash-forward showing Chanaar’s son Aizaz as a teenager, with Zamda revealing her reasons for sparing him and starting a new life in Karachi.

Overall, the ending of ‘Khaie’ is satisfying, with Zamda achieving her revenge but also facing the consequences of her actions. However, the possibility of a second season remains uncertain, as one survivor from Duraab Khan’s clan still remains.
