Jasprit Bumrah’s wife slams trolls targeting their infant son

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s wife, Sanjana Ganesan, has strongly condemned the online trolling directed at their infant son, Angad.

The incident unfolded after a recent IPL match in which the Mumbai Indians defeated the Lucknow Super Giants. While the game created a buzz on the field, social media witnessed a disturbing trend.

Angad was seen on camera with a neutral facial expression, which led to a flood of memes online mocking his demeanour, suggesting that he doesn’t smile even in the happiest of moments.

Some users went as far as speculating about the toddler’s mental health, upsetting his mother deeply.

In response, Sanjana took to Instagram and shared a bold, heartfelt message. She expressed disappointment over people making assumptions about a child based on just a few seconds of footage.

She wrote,  “Our son is NOT a topic for your entertainment. Jasprit and I do everything in our power to keep Angad away from social media because the Internet is a despicable, vile place to be, and I completely understand the implications of bringing a child to a cricket stadium filled with cameras, but please understand that Angad, and I were there to support Jasprit and nothing else.”

“We have no interest in our son being viral Internet content or national news, with unnecessarily opinionated keyboard warriors deciding who Angad is, what his problem is, what his personality is, from 3 seconds of footage,” she added.

She further wrote, “He is one and a half years old. Throwing around words like trauma and depression in reference to a baby says so much about who we’re becoming as a community, and it’s honestly really sad.”

She also criticised those who irresponsibly used terms like “depression patient” to describe their 18-month-old son, saying, “Using such serious mental health terms for a baby reveals how far we’ve fallen as a society”.

Sanjana concluded her statement with a firm message: “You know NOTHING about our son, nothing about our lives, and I request you to keep your opinions online true to that. A little honesty and a little kindness go a long way in today’s world.”

Jasprit Bumrah and Sanjana Ganesan got married in March 2021, and their son Angad was born in September 2023. The couple is well-loved by cricket fans in India. The trolling was especially hurtful given that Angad is just 18 months old, making the online mockery even more disturbing for the parents.

Despite the off-field emotional turmoil, Bumrah delivered a stellar performance on the field. In Sunday’s crucial match, he took four wickets against Lucknow, leading the Mumbai Indians to a commanding 54-run victory. With this performance, he became the franchise’s leading wicket-taker, having played 139 matches for them so far.

We can have a war within two to four days: defence minister

Amid tension between Pakistan and India following last week’s attack in Pahalgam in Indian-Occupied Kashmir, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Monday cautioned about the possibility of both countries engaging in war in the next two to four days.

“There is a war looming on the horizon. A very vivid possibility is there that we can have a war in the next two to four days,” Asif said while appearing on a private news outlet.

However, he clarified that, not being a military strategist, he was making such a guess as a political worker.

When questioned, “What type of engagement war does India want with Pakistan?” the Defence Minister said, “I don’t believe that it [India] will go for an all-out [war],” adding that if an incursion happens, it will be limited to the Line of Control (LOC).

“Our whole border is covered, including water [Navy], air [Air Force], and ground. We are ready,” he added.

On being asked whether international efforts to defuse the tension between both countries had increased, Asif claimed that numerous countries, including Saudi Arabia, China, and Iran, had approached both Pakistan and India.

On the Indus Water Treaty being put in abeyance by India, he said that the latter country had often asked to renegotiate the treaty in the past when he was the minister for Water and Power, adding, “There is no need for renegotiation until all parties — Pakistan, India, and the World Bank — agree.”

The minister’s remarks come hours after he, in an interview with Reuters in Islamabad, said that a military incursion by India was imminent in the aftermath of a deadly militant attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) last week, as tensions rise between the two nuclear-armed nations.

“We have reinforced our forces because it is imminent now. So, in that situation, some strategic decisions have to be taken, so those decisions have been taken,” the defence minister said.

Asif said India’s rhetoric was ramping up and that Pakistan’s military had briefed the government on the possibility of an Indian attack. However, the defence minister did not go into further details on his reasons for thinking an incursion was imminent.

  • Lahore beats New York, London, Washington on safest cities index

Lahore beats New York, London, Washington on safest cities index

Research platform Numbeo’s 2025 Crime and Safety Index shows that Lahore has become one of the safest cities in the world, a significant improvement over the state of crime in  second biggest city of the country.

The city has surpassed big metropolises including New York, London, Washington, D.C., Berlin, Istanbul, and Paris to rank 37th on the Global Crime Index and 63rd among the safest cities worldwide.

This is the first time in Lahore’s history that such a significant drop in crime has been documented. Stronger accountability within the law enforcement system and more efficient policing techniques are credited by the report for the drop.

The city’s reported crime rate fell significantly from 67,585 occurrences over the same period last year to 34,091 events between April 2024 and April 2025.

While ordinary robberies decreased by 55 percent, serious crimes, such as murder and robbery, decreased by 64 percent.
The report also highlighted notable improvements in curbing vehicle-related crimes:

Motorcycles thefts decreased by 33 percent.

Street snatching went down by 42 percent.

Car thefts decreased by 33 percent.

Other vehicle thefts dropped by 39 percent.

Following internal investigations, four SHOs were imprisoned within their own precincts, and more than 400 police personnel and officials were disciplined internally for misconduct.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran attributed the success to data-driven policing, stating that crime hotspots were identified through technology and reinforced with additional manpower and resources.

“We identified crime hotspots using technology and boosted human resources and equipment in these areas,” he said. “Advertised criminals and habitual offenders were arrested and incarcerated, and merit-based appointments gave opportunities to young officers.”

Kamran also emphasized the significance of political backing and autonomy in implementing reforms.

“Political support and freedom from external pressures enabled us to make and enforce clear policies,” he said.

“Our future goal is clear: to make Lahore one of the safest cities globally.”

  • Carney’s Liberals win Canada election defined by Trump

Carney’s Liberals win Canada election defined by Trump

Prime Minister Mark Carney won Canada’s election Monday, leading his Liberal Party to a new term in power after convincing voters his experience managing crises had prepared him to confront US President Donald Trump.

The public broadcaster CBC and other outlets projected the Liberals would form Canada’s next government, but it was not yet clear if they would hold a majority in parliament.

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre fell short of becoming prime minister, but his party was on track to form a strong opposition.

Carney, who had never held elected office and only replaced Justin Trudeau as prime minister last month, previously served as central bank governor in both Canada and Britain.

Trump’s trade war and annexation threats outraged Canadians and made dealing with the United States a top campaign issue.

Carney, a 60-year-old former investment banker, anchored his campaign on an anti-Trump message, promising to expand Canada’s overseas trading relationships to curb reliance on the United States, a country he said “we can no longer trust.”

Carney has described the threat of Trump in stark terms.

“Donald Trump wants to break us so America can own us,” he said during the campaign.

“They want our resources, they want our water, they want our land, they want our country. They can’t have it.”

When the CBC projection was announced, cheers of joy erupted at the Ottawa venue where Liberal supporters were watching the results.

“I’m happy in the sense that we’ve got somebody that can speak to Mr. Trump on his level,” said Dorothy Goubault, 72.

“Mr. Trump is a business person. Mr. Carney is a business person, and I think they can both relate.”

Before Trudeau resigned, Trump had mocked him, calling the prime minister “governor” as he urged Canada to become the 51st US state.

Goubault said she expects that mockery to stop.

“It’s not the governor anymore, it’s the prime minister of Canada, and it’s not the 51st state anymore. It’s ‘We are Canada!’”

lawmaker and a member of Carney’s cabinet, Steven Guilbeault, tied the outcome to Trump.

“The numerous attacks by President Trump on the Canadian economy, but not just the economy, on our sovereignty and our very identity, have really mobilized Canadians, and I think they saw in Prime Minister Carney someone who has experience on the world stage, someone who has experience with the economy,” he told the CBC.

Carney led the Bank of Canada through the 2008-2009 financial crisis and headed the bank of England through the turmoil surrounding the 2016 Brexit vote.

    – Trudeau’s departure –

Trudeau’s departure was also crucial to the Liberal win, which capped one of the most dramatic turnarounds in Canadian political history.

On January 6, the day Trudeau announced he would resign, the Conservatives led the Liberals by more than 20 points in most polls, as public anger over soaring costs mounted after Trudeau’s decade in power.

But Carney replacing Trudeau, combined with nationwide unease about Trump, transformed the race.

Carney distanced himself from Trudeau throughout the campaign.

He said the former prime minister did not focus enough on growing Canada’s economy and scrapped a controversial Trudeau tax on carbon emissions that left many voters seething.

For Poilievre, a 45-year-old who has been in parliament for two decades, the outcome marks a stinging defeat.

He was criticized for the at-times muted anger he directed towards Trump, but said he wanted to keep the focus on domestic concerns.

He tried to persuade voters that Carney would simply offer a continuation of the failed Liberal governance, an argument that fell short.

At the Conservative watch party in Ottawa, Jason Piche told AFP he was surprised by the result.

“I was hoping to have a big celebration tonight,” Piche said.

Nearly 29 million of Canada’s 41 million people were eligible to vote in the massive G7 country that spans six time zones.

Results were still pending on the shape of Canada’s 343 members of parliament, with 172 seats needed for a majority. The Liberals won a majority in 2015 but have governed with a minority since 2019.

  • Vaibhav Suryavanshi creates history in IPL at just 14 years of age

Vaibhav Suryavanshi creates history in IPL at just 14 years of age

Rajasthan Royals’ 14-year-old batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made history by becoming the youngest player to score a century in men’s T20 cricket.

Suryavanshi reached his century in just 35 balls by hitting a six off Rashid Khan — the second-fastest hundred in Indian Premier League (IPL) history and the fastest by an Indian player. The young left-hander smashed seven fours and 11 sixes, scoring a brilliant 101 runs off 38 balls.

Bought for approximately INR 1.1 crore (around £103,789) in last year’s auction, Suryavanshi made his IPL debut earlier this month, grabbing attention by hitting a six off the very first ball he faced in his career.

Continuing his fearless approach in Jaipur, Suryavanshi tore apart Gujarat Titans’ bowling attack, helping Rajasthan Royals chase down a daunting target of 210 runs with ease. He formed a stunning 166-run partnership for the first wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained not out on 70 runs.

Vaibhav completed his century in the 11th over. Only West Indies’ Chris Gayle has scored a faster century in IPL history — reaching the landmark in just 30 balls while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013.

This victory ended Rajasthan Royals’ streak of five consecutive defeats and revived their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages.

On the other hand, Gujarat Titans’ Shubman Gill scored 84 runs, and Jos Buttler contributed an unbeaten 50. However, their team slipped to third place on the points table based on net run rate after the loss.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi had already made headlines last year by becoming the youngest player ever picked in the IPL auction. In October, at just 13 years old, he gained fame by smashing a century off 58 balls in a Youth Test match against Australia Under-19.

He was also part of India’s Under-19 Asia Cup squad, where he scored 176 runs at an average of 44. Hailing from Bihar, a state in eastern India, Vaibhav made his first-class debut in the Ranji Trophy at the tender age of 12 and has already played five first-class matches for Bihar.

  • Shahid Afridi up in arms against Indian army for security failure in held Kashmir

Shahid Afridi up in arms against Indian army for security failure in held Kashmir

Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has strongly criticised the Indian Army following the tragic Pahalgam attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir, questioning their ability to provide security and rejecting allegations of Pakistan’s involvement.

Speaking on a private channel, Afridi slammed what he called “baseless accusations” and shifted the focus to the shortcomings of the Indian military, as Indian media quickly blamed Pakistan for the attack.

“A firecracker goes off over there [in Pahalgam], and they [India] say Pakistan did it. You [India] have 800,000 soldiers stationed in Kashmir, and yet this [attack] happened. It means you are incompetent, useless — you couldn’t even provide security to your own people,” Afridi bluntly said.

He also demanded proof of Pakistan’s alleged involvement and accused India of orchestrating violence against its own people. “India commits acts of terrorism, kills its own citizens, and then places the blame on Pakistan,” he stated, criticising the Indian government and the media’s anti-Pakistan narrative built around the incident.

Afridi highlighted, “No nation or religion supports terrorism,” reinstating Pakistan’s opposition to terrorism. “We are always in favour of peace. Islam simply teaches us to be peaceful, and Pakistan never condones such behaviour.”

He also touched upon the broader issue of strained Indo-Pak relations, recalling the atmosphere of hostility during his playing days and making reference to the 2016 T20 World Cup.

“We got a lot of threats before we went to India. I was the captain at the time, and I wasn’t sure if we would even participate,” he said.

“Sports diplomacy is also good,” Afridi stated, pointing out the important role sports can play in diplomacy.

“They are unable to bring their cricket squad here, so they send their kabaddi team. You can either let sport unite people or shut it down entirely if you want to,” he added.

Tensions between Pakistan and India have intensified after militants opened fire at a well-known tourist site, killing at least 26 individuals and wounding several more.

The attack happened on April 22 at Pahalgam, a popular destination in Indian-occupied Kashmir that welcomes thousands of tourists each year.

  • Asim Azhar reacts to viral Ali Safina, Merab Ali podcast moment

Asim Azhar reacts to viral Ali Safina, Merab Ali podcast moment

Renowned singer Asim Azhar has finally shared his thoughts on the viral video featuring actors Merub Ali and Ali Safina.

Asim and Merub are engaged, but comments about Asim’s past relationship with actress Hania Amir keep resurfacing.

Recently, during a show, Ali Safina joked about Asim and Hania’s past. He asked Merab, “Does Asim ever sing ‘Oh Hania O Dil Jaani’ for you?’” Merub handled the moment with grace, although it became a little awkward and quickly went viral on social media.

At first, Merub avoided responding to the question but then replied, laughing, “What do you have to do with that?” She added, “Of course, he sings. He serenades me with every song.”

Reacting to the situation, Merab laughed and roasted Ali Safina, hinting that she understood he was actually referring to Hania Aamir.

Later, when the host asked Merub how she deals with such uncomfortable questions, she said, “I do nothing but laugh it off.”

Asim Azhar, on the other hand, responded to the situation wisely.

“Everyone has the right to their privacy, but one thing should be understood: if you bring your life to social media, be prepared for criticism. If you are not mentally strong, you should not put yourself in such a situation,” he remarked.

“Sometimes the line is crossed, and that is wrong, but I am aware of this fact and face it,” he added.

Asim also shared his approach towards people, saying, “I only talk to those I love; otherwise, I generally keep my distance.”

Pakistan Navy forces Indian carrier to retreat in Arabian Sea

Vigilant operations of the Pakistan Navy have reportedly forced an Indian aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, to retreat from near Pakistani waters.

Media outlets quoted security sources as reporting that on April 23, the Indian-indigenously built INS Vikrant was deployed to the northern parts of the Arabian Sea amid tensions between the two countries.

The Indian vessel was withdrawn after the Pakistan Navy patrolled persistently and effectively, reports said.

As per the latest satellite intelligence (IMINT) images, INS Vikrant re-moored to the Indian port of Karwar after spending a few days at sea.

The deployment and subsequent withdrawal highlights the growing military posturing in the region following last week’s terror attack in Pahalgam in held Kashmir, which killed 26 people.

Pakistan and India are yet to comment on the development.
