Anzela Abbasi says her mother didn’t let her feel father’s absence

Model and actor Anzela Abbasi has said that her mother played the role of both parents in her life, ensuring that she never felt the absence of her father.

In a recent appearance on Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast, Anzela spoke about her parents’ divorce, her upbringing, and her relationship with her mother and father.

She said, “My mom had me in her twenties, which is quite young to have a child. It’s not that she wasn’t working, but for me, she played the roles of both mom and dad. I never felt my father’s absence and had no complaints about her in that sense.”

Anzela added that while she sometimes felt hurt as a child because of her parents’ separation, she later understood that “every person has their own emotions.”

She explained that her mother managed both parental roles while raising her and balancing professional life at a young age.

Talking about moving out of the family home, Anzela said, “I had that conversation when I was 22. I moved out and decided that I would earn and become independent. It was quite a debate with my mom, but after moving out, our relationship improved. She trusted me, and would come over, she would bring food, and we used to have a good time. Later, I moved back in with her when she asked me to get settled in life.”

Speaking about her father, actor Shamoon Abbasi, Anzela said, “I admit he is a great actor, but I don’t know which side of him to relate to. Honestly, I don’t follow my parents’ work; it’s their job. When I was younger, I could relate to him because I have seen him multitasking. He is an actor, director, producer and writer. Now, I want to try everything, but I don’t necessarily look up to him in that way.”

She also shared a lesson she learned from him, saying, “What I learned from my father is to keep working on my craft and continually improve myself in whatever I do.”

Anzela Abbasi is the daughter of actors Javeria Abbasi and Shamoon Abbasi. Her parents married in 1997 and separated in 2007. She was born two years after their marriage. She gained recognition for her performances in dramas including Laal Ishq, Gila, and Haqeeqat, and married Tashfeen Ansari in August 2023.

Amna Malik says a Jinn once returned her missing money

Pakistani actor Amna Malik, who is currently starring in the hit drama ‘Jama Taqseem’, has revealed how she “once told a Jinn to return some missing money”, and actually got it back.

Appearing on Tabish Hashmi’s show ‘Hasna Mana Hai’, she said that some money of hers once disappeared from her house. “Before that, my jewelry or clothes used to go missing every now and then,” Malik said, adding how she first suspected that it was her domestic help’s doing, but it was not that.

“Someone told me that Jinns roam around houses and some Jinn‑children play pranks by hiding things […] if the Jinns are good, you speak to them and they return the items,” she said.

Malik recalled how she addressed the unseen presence and said, “Whoever you are… in my house, young or old, please do not hide my things… return them.”

Later in the evening, she said, the money that had gone missing was found.

Malik said it scared her and her children, but since then, “Whenever something goes missing at home, I talk to the Jinns.”

Fans were quick to react to the story, with one commenting, “Jinn peson ka kia krty .” Another joked, “Netflix ki subscription leni ho gi for this show.”

This is not the first time a Pakistani celebrity has narrated some sort of supernatural experience of theirs.

Actress Samina Peerzada also once shared a similar story, recalling that she was attacked by a Jinn right before the shooting of her horror film Deemak.

“I asked the house help two or three times to turn on the light, but when no one did, I went to the backyard myself and turned it on.”

“Someone pushed me hard from behind. I fell far away and got several injuries. But there was no one there except me. It was a Jinn.”

Despite the shock, she said she carried on. “After the incident, I bandaged my injury and went straight to the shoot. I completed the shooting.”

Actor Hira Soomro also once shared her own supernatural encounter while staying at a hotel in the picturesque Naran Valley.

On a podcast she said, “I am 100 percent sure jinns exist in Naran, that place feels heavy.”

She also recalled how her hotel room door “kept opening and closing on its own” and how she “heard the flush in the bathroom go off twice without anyone inside”.

  • Zain Ahmad deletes all wedding pics with Aima, fueling rumours of split

Zain Ahmad deletes all wedding pics with Aima, fueling rumours of split

Rumors about trouble between singer Aima Baig and her husband, fashion designer and Rastah CEO Zain Ahmad, grew stronger this week after both took unusual steps on Instagram.

Aima deactivated her Instagram account last month, and now Zain has deleted all wedding photos from his profile. Fans noticed the change within hours and immediately began discussing the possibility of a split.

This is not the first time fans have questioned the couple’s relationship. In October, Zain suddenly unfollowed Aima on Instagram. The move triggered speculation of differences between the two, but Zain later said that a technical glitch caused the issue. He also said that their wedding photos did not disappear and that he moved them to the archive folder.

Aima and Zain married in August 2025 in Lahore. Their marriage has not completed one full year, yet online discussions about a possible separation have returned with full force.

Before marrying Zain, Aima was engaged to actor Shehroz Shigri. The two met during the shoot of the film Parey Hut Love. The singer announced the end of the engagement in September 2022.

After that breakup, Aima and Zain grew close. Fans often saw them together at public events, and Aima commented warmly on Zain’s posts. Many took the interactions as confirmation of their relationship.

In recent months, Aima stepped away from the music scene and reduced activity on Instagram. She used to post casual stories, chat with followers and share updates about her songs, but she has been quiet for a while now. Zain stayed focused on his brand, and Aima’s silence added to the curiosity.

Now that Zain has removed all their photos, fans believe something serious may be happening. Neither Aima nor Zain has commented on the speculation, but social media remains full of prayers and good wishes for both.

  • Doctor Nabiha reveals wedding outfit, jewelry cost more than Rs2 crore

Doctor Nabiha reveals wedding outfit, jewelry cost more than Rs2 crore

Clinical psychologist and and social media influencer Nabiha Ali Khan recently married her close friend Haris Khokhar in a private ceremony at the residence of Maulana Tariq Jameel, who personally conducted the Nikah.

Photos and videos from the event have gone viral on social media.

Nabiha Ali Khan shared details of her wedding look, revealing that her off-white outfit, designed by well-known designer Hina Salman, cost around Rs1 crore, while her jewelry was valued at approximately Rs1.5 crore, making her total bridal look worth over Rs2 crore.

Haris Khokhar complemented her by wearing an off-white sherwani, creating a coordinated and elegant appearance.

She expressed excitement that Maulana Tariq Jameel personally officiated the Nikah, a decision the religious scholar came to just two days before the wedding. The ceremony included a small number of guests, including prominent personalities like Farah Iqrar.

While many congratulated the couple, others debated the extravagance, posting comments such as: “FBR will check her tax,” “MashaAllah,” and “Jewelry looks artificial, one crore dress heard for the first time.”

  • Case No.9: The ego will get him

Case No.9: The ego will get him

Case No.9 is a drama in which we know the ending. We know that Sehar (Saba Qamar) will get justice and win the case but the suspense is in how.

Even if the way she gets it wasn’t suspenseful enough, it is her family’s raw emotion on the witness stand in episode 13 this week and the hateful policeman (Gohar Rasheed) in episode 14 that will keep you thinking about the drama long after you saw it.

The feeling of helplessness, when someone does not fight for justice tears through the family on the witness stand in episode 13. Kamran (Faysal Quraishi)’s lawyer Bokhari (Noorul Hassan) gives the performance of a lifetime. His biting lies and brilliant acting are so intensely portrayed, you can’t help but hate him and feel helpless along with Sehar’s family. The episode is a must watch because you really feel what the family feels when they realise perhaps it would’ve been much, much better if they had just reported the rape on time instead of wanting to hide it because of ‘log kya kahein gay’.

But episode 14 also shows that log bohat kuch kehte hain. Sehar’s brother could not help himself on the stand, attacking Bokhari when he’s being questioned. Things come to a head in episode 15 when he engages in a physical fight with men who live in the apartment building they reside in and comment on his sister.

He is a crucial piece in the story because he shows that our society has a disturbingly deep sense of ‘manhood’ and the ‘protection of the women’ that can only be done by a male family member. God forbid, Sehar had a sister rather than a brother who could ‘protect her’ and show his anger by attacking others. That is what unfortunately the drama shows – that we, as a society, are ready to take justice into our own hands, the hands of men, but are not willing to trust the system.

But Shahzeb Khanzada isn’t done yet. Clearly he has written the drama invoking all of the characters that reflect society and then you get an inkling that the hero(ine) is yet to emerge. It is Beenish (Amina Shaikh), Sehar’s lawyer, who is going to fight the fight – the right way, but investigating facts and ultimately, as seen in the teaser for the next episode, convince Kamran to answer her questions by doing exactly what we saw with Sehar’s brother – playing to his emotions and pushing his ego.

It is clear that Kamran, the loaded businessman, will fall because of his own bloated ego and conviction that money will get him anywhere – and in many ways it has. But Beenish isn’t finished yet and we can’t wait to find out what happens next.

  • It’s War: Parents and stereotypes clash in Jama Taqseem

It’s War: Parents and stereotypes clash in Jama Taqseem

This week’s episodes of Jama Taqseem, took a very soft but fascinating turn. Laila (Mawra Hocane) and Qais (Talha Chahour) both have their parents living in the same house with the couple.

Two different mindsets clash, with Qais’ mother worried that Laila’s mother is taking over her ‘son’s house’ and Laila’s mother worried that Qais’ parents want to take over her daughter’s personality.

The conservative vs. the modern is presented through both parents and what is interesting is that this could only happen when parents, the baras, get involved and things become raw and very direct.

Social media users are all team Laila’s mom and Mawra Hocane in a recent interview said that she was too. Laila’s mom is bitingly direct, the modern working woman, who raised her only child to be independent and strong. She doesn’t want to live in Laila’s house, preferring the comfort of her own but after realising that Qais’ parents are trying to control her daughter, she decides to stay to give Laila the strength to own her own life. And she does give her that strength.

Laila goes to the job interview that she’s been so excited to get but wasn’t planning on going when she finds out that Qais’ parents don’t want her to work.  She only manages to go – and gets the job – when her mother forces her to do it, telling her that she would manage Qais’ parents (and in turn, their criticism) and protect her daughter. Which she does.

She, sometimes, very intensely, lashes back at the ‘jaahil soch’ that Qais’ parents have of the girl’s parents not being in their son-in-laws’ house, women not working and women having their own lives.

At this point, you can’t really tell which mother is more judgey but it becomes clearer who is more in the wrong when Abba Jee, Qais’ father (Javed Shaikh) attacks Laila’s father, Asher (Deepak Parwani) for not saying his prayers, passing comments about how Laila’s father doesn’t know how to say his namaz.

It’s a classic game isn’t it? Bringing in religion to support your point of view and posturing a feeling of superiority. Abba Jee does that and immediately you realise that no matter what Laila and her father and mother do, it’s Qais’ parents that will ultimately have to change. Because judging people on the way they practice their religion is not okay under any circumstance.

If you had to guess what will happen next, it seems as is Qais might be out of a job soon and Laila will be the one working and when the tables turn, Qais’ parents won’t be able to handle their son living on his wife’s income – but he will have to and they will have to accept it. Another stereotype broken so beautifully in this very well made drama.

We’re all Team Laila’s mom in this series and we can’t wait to see how Laila grows as she accepts that she can be more than someone who compromises to please her husband and his parents. And while there is trouble brewing, only time will tell how Qais will manage it all.

  • While Asim Azhar sings ‘Haniya,’ Hania Aamir is posting about this guy

While Asim Azhar sings ‘Haniya,’ Hania Aamir is posting about this guy

While Hania-Asim fans are over the moon about Asim crooning, ‘Janiya, Haniya’, our favourite superstar Hania Aamir doesn’t seem like she’s into it.

She hasn’t officially responded, commented, or even mentioned Asim’s new album but she is talking about another guy, who has stolen the international spotlight this week.

Asim Azhar’s new album titled Asim Ali is set to release on November 24 and songs are trickling in on his Instagram feed. One of the tracks is titled ‘Lost n Found’, which the teaser links with a visual of Hania Aamir from their earlier public association.

Fans of the former alleged couple went wild. With Hania silent, all eyes were on Asim’s Instagram to see what else he would upload and fans were not disappointed. On Wednesday, Asim dropped the song, “Tere Bin Nahi Lagta” with an instagram caption saying, “Pehle tu, hum hain baad tere tere bin nahi lagda ft. @boljanimusic out now everywhere!!! ”

If you’ve heard Nusrat Fateh Ali’s original, Tere Bin, you know it says, “Janiya, Haniya” and that’s exactly the rendition that Asim was going for and Asim Azhar fans are here for it. The comment section was filled with hearts for Haniya aka Hania.

Meanwhile, across the Insta universe, it seems that Hania Aamir hasn’t heard her name being sung out with such intensity and has more pressing issues on her mind. The actor has been posting stories about New York’s new Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, with her latest story about how Israelis said they would not visit New York if Mamdani became mayor.

Will she comment on Asim’s new album is anyone’s guess. Given Asim recently broke off his three-year-engagement to Merub Ali, in June this year, fans are hoping for a Hania-Asim reunion.

  • Arundhati Roy, her mother and the cross they bear

Arundhati Roy, her mother and the cross they bear

I read Arundhati Roy’s Mother Mary Comes to Me a week ago but I’ve thought about it every single day since. I couldn’t put it down out of love for Roy’s writing and sheer terror because I had to find out how it ends. I know it ends well right? She’s alive, a best-selling author, someone who calls out what’s wrong and goes to prison for what’s right.

Terror because the one question I can’t stop thinking about is if Arundhati would have been the great author she is if her mother had not been cruel Mother Mary.

Roy’s first memoir has been released after her mother passed away. Her mother is larger than life, a giver to the ones not related to her, a taker from everyone who is, a person who made history and a woman who failed at nurturing her children. What Roy goes through before she gets away from her mother is dark. What was good in Mary Roy went to the children of the school she ran, and what was bad was beaten into Arundhati and her brother.

It reads like slow death for children that young and then when you think it can’t get worse, Arundhati sends a spark up into the sky. Her mother taught her to be fearless, to stand up for her beliefs, to read, to write. In the depths of her darkness, Mrs. Roy would send Arundhati a lifeboat when her child most needed it and then drowned her all over again.

‘The book is so Arundhati’, is what I’ve heard people say around me and it’s true. It’s purely and most beautifully the woven skill of the master Indian weaver that is the Booker prize winning author. It is so raw, it hurts and it is so heartwarming, it hugs. She seamlessly takes us through her childhood, growing up Syrian Christian, without a father and troubled relatives, only a brother to hold onto, the rock that remains. As for her mother, you won’t be able to get over the majesty that is Mrs. Mary Roy.

A trailblazer who set up a massive school in a small town in Kerala, went to the Supreme Court to win a case that helped her get her inheritance and did not allow anyone to weigh her down. Arundhati says that her mother loved herself and when you read the book, you feel that it likely happened when Mrs. Roy had to learn to rely on her own.

Arundhati glorifies her mother by showing the worst side of her. For every mother who wants to berate their children and hold back, Mrs. Roy lets it burst through like a tsunami. Mrs. Roy says things you should never let a child know exist, leaving them black and blue, so much so that Arundhati the teenager, realises that the only way to live with her mother is to leave her.

Near the end, Arundhati tells us about how she enters the sphere of awakening the world to issues that are condemned in public – she herself goes through contempt of court to stand up for stories she has written. It, at first, seems like a sharp break from the story she had been telling. We lose Mrs. Roy there for a few chapters, and one wonders why until we come back to her, closer to her mother’s passing. It seems as if Arundhati’s real ownership of her self is when she is fighting for the cause of another – her books weave her mother in and out – but her voice for the other, that voice is purely her own.

You likely won’t read a better book this year and you will stare at Arundhati’s picture long after you’ve finished, finding it difficult to remove it from your bedside table. And the worst part is, if you are a mother,  you know that what Mrs. Mary Roy did to her child should never be done to another and you are certain you won’t do it to your own – but then you realise if she had not, there will not be an Arundhati Roy – and that is a heavy cross to bear.
