Ryan Day Received $1M Bonus Following Ohio State’s CFP Victory Over Notre Dame

Head coach Ryan Day is taking home a nice bonus check after Ohio State defeated Notre Dame 34-23 in the College Football Playoff final. This win earned him his first national championship.

In the meantime, Ryan Day went into the game with $500,000 in bonuses for the Buckeyes’ run to the national title game. He received the most significant bonus for an Ohio State coach in a long time after hitting one million dollars, with a total combined sum of $1 million within a contractual ceiling of $10 million in basic compensation.

Ohio State quickly fell behind since Notre Dame’s 18-play drive went for a touchdown. The Buckeyes promptly put the game away with 31 unanswered points.

Ohio State quarterback Will Howard set up a field goal that sealed the victory after the Irish got within a score thanks to a stunning 56-yard pass to receiver Jeremiah Smith.

After an up-and-down year, Ryan Day had faced questions about his job security. However, he quieted all the noise with Monday night’s national title win. He will quickly turn the page and try to lead the Buckeyes to a second consecutive championship next season.

Kirk Herbstreit Sends Message to Ryan Day After the Victory

This was Ohio State’s first national title win since the 2014 season and the first for coach Ryan Day. He was appointed at the end of the 2018 season. During the postgame analysis, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit discussed Ryan Day’s success, given the high achievements of the Buckeyes’ head coach.

“I hear the stories behind the curtain; I know what he and his wife and his family go through,” Herbstreit quoted by Awful Announcing. “It’s tough. It’s a tough thing to happen when you’re coaching at a school where you dream of winning every game yourself. He just handled it with such class.”

Ryan Day went to the College Football Playoffs after beating the Michigan Wolverines in week 14 as Ohio State head coach. He has gone 1-4 against the Wolverines since taking over the program at the end of the 2018 season.

Day has an overall record of 44 wins against all Big Ten schools except Michigan. However, despite this, college football analysts and fans have criticized him throughout his career.

Ohio State Defeated Notre Dame 34-23 To Win National Championship

The recent matchup between Notre Dame and Ohio State marks only the eighth time the teams have played each other. The Buckeyes hold the lead against the Irish with six wins and only two losses. The US football teams have only faced each other in bowl games twice, and both times, the Ohio State team won decisively.

Ohio State vs. Notre Dame: 2025 National Championship

Ohio State’s 34-23 victory over Notre Dame in a tense match formally crowned them 2025 National Champions. The Buckeyes showed off their strength on both sides after Kyle McCord scored 34 points. The Ohio State defense stopped Notre Dame’s potent offense, which forced several turnovers and made the Irish STAND at several crucial moments. Despite substantial efforts from Notre Dame, a hero quarterback, and a running back, Ohio State’s offensive power and uncompromising defense were too much to handle. The Buckeyes earned victory number 34 for the National Championship and wrapped up with a title that had long been out of their reach. This solidified their place among the elite college teams.

The Last Time Notre Dame won a National Championship

The last Fighting Irish victory in a bowl game was back in 1988 when the team was led by Lou Holtz through an undefeated season with a record of 12-0 before the game was played at the college football playoffs.

Some highlights of 1988’s Championship included the signature game during Notre Dame’s winning streak against the number-one Miami team, which took on the title of ‘the Catholics vs. the Convicts.’ The Fighting Irish pulled a close 31-30 victory in this game. For the national championship game, Notre Dame claimed the title over West Virginia after scoring 34 points against their 21 in the Fiesta Bowl.

The basketball players, including quarterback Tony Rice and receiver Rocket Ismail, won the MVP award that year even though Notre Dame did not take home the coveted Heisman Trophy.

Last Victory Of Ohio State Buckeyes National Championship Title

In the history of Ohio State Buckeyes, they last won any college football national championship in 2014. This title was captured during the first CFB playoffs held by the College Football Playoff (CFP) on UME Meyer.

    Highlights of the 2014 Championship

    • Big Ten Championship Game: Ohio State scored a 59-0 victory over Wisconsin. This was a remarkable win that also assisted them in qualifying for the CF playoffs.

    • CFP Semifinal: In the Sugar Bowl, Ohio State went against Alabama, ranked number one, and the Ohio State team won with 42 against 35.

    • National Championship Game: The Buckeyes performed stellar against Oregon, winning 42-20 and taking home the title on January 12, 2015. Ezekiel Elliott was noted for his impressive performance. He barreled through the game, rushing for 246 yards and scoring four touchdowns.

  • Trump starts second term with border, ‘woke’ culture restrictions

Trump starts second term with border, ‘woke’ culture restrictions

On the first day of his new term, President Donald Trump signed orders ranging from climate to immigration, along with sweeping pardons for many of those who stormed the capital on January 6, 2021.

Some of his orders delivered on promises he made during the 2024 campaign. Others, like a withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO), had not been expected.

Here is a summary of the orders Trump signed at a Washington arena packed with supporters, and later at the White House, after he was sworn in as president.

    Immigration

Trump signed various orders aimed at reshaping how the United States manages immigration and citizenship.

One declared a national emergency at the southern border.

Trump also promised a mass deportation operation involving the military, which he says will target those he called “criminal aliens.”

In the Oval Office, Trump signed an order revoking birthright citizenship.

But automatic US citizenship to people born in the country is enshrined in the Constitution, and Trump’s action is certain to face a legal challenge.

    January 6 rioters

Trump signed pardons for some of the 1,500 participants in the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol by his supporters trying to overturn the 2020 election.

He again referred to those who were convicted or pleaded guilty over the riots as “hostages.”

    Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

Trump repealed various executive orders promoting diversity programs and LGBTQ equality, in line with his promised attack on “woke” culture.

He overturned decrees promoting diversity and equality in the government, businesses and healthcare, as well as the rights of LGBTQ Americans.

Trump said that moving forward the US government will only recognize “two genders, male and female.”

    Paris Climate accord

The president immediately withdrew the United States from the Paris climate accord, repeating an action he took during his first term.

The order extends Trump’s defiant rejection of global efforts to combat planetary warming as catastrophic weather events intensify worldwide.

It would take a year to leave the agreement after submitting a formal notice to the United Nations framework that underpins global climate negotiations.

    Oil drilling

Trump signed an order declaring a “national energy emergency” aimed at significantly expanding drilling in the world’s top oil and gas producer.

“We will drill, baby, drill,” Trump said in his inaugural address.

    Work from home

Another order requires federal workers to return to the office full-time, with Trump seeking to undo most of the work-from-home allowances that flourished during the Covid-19 pandemic.

    Leaving WHO

Trump signed an order for the United States to exit the World Health Organization, insisting Washington was unfairly paying more than China into the UN body.

    TikTok

The president ordered a 75-day pause on enforcing a law that would effectively ban TikTok.

His action delayed implementation of an act that came into effect this week, prohibiting the distribution and updating of TikTok in the United States.

Trump has said the app’s Chinese parent company must agree to sell a fifty percent share to the United States.

    West Bank settlers

Trump revoked sanctions against violent Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank accused of abuses against Palestinians, undoing an unprecedented action taken by Joe Biden’s administration.

    Cuba

Reversing another one of Biden’s more recent moves, Trump removed Cuba from a blacklist of state sponsors of terrorism.

Biden had removed Cuba from the list only days earlier as part of a deal to free prisoners.

  • Hamas bids farewell to Israeli hostages with goody bags

Hamas bids farewell to Israeli hostages with goody bags

Three Israeli hostages released by Hamas reportedly received gift bags after their release on Sunday.

Videos show the hostages bidding farewell to Hamas fighters, smiling at the camera, and accepting the goody bags.

The three women, identified as Emily Damari (28), Romi Gonen (24), and Doron Steinbrecher (31), were handed paper bags through the window of a vehicle. The bags, bearing the logo of the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, reportedly contained mementoes from their time in captivity.

The video, released by Hamas, revealed that the bags included photos of the hostages during their captivity, a necklace, and a map of the Gaza Strip. Israeli media also reported that each bag contained a certificate inscribed with a “release decision” written in both Arabic and Hebrew.

The hostages were then taken in a Red Cross SUV to Al-Saraya Square in Gaza City, where they were handed over to the Red Cross amidst a crowd of Palestinians.

Before the transfer, a Hamas fighter reportedly required a Red Cross representative to sign an Arabic-language document titled “Acknowledgment of Receipt of Israeli Prisoners.”

“I, the representative of the International Red Cross, acknowledge that I have received from the Izz Eddin al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, a total of three prisoners, who are…” and then the names of the hostages.

The Israeli women were returned to Israel on Sunday, January 19, as part of the first phase of the hostage exchange and ceasefire agreement between Gaza authorities and Israel.

A video released by Israel’s Foreign Ministry shows the three women being greeted by Israeli military forces on Sunday.

As per sources, the three hostages did not require any immediate medical care, and their bags were confiscated by Israeli authorities.

Hours after the release of the three hostages, Israel released 90 Palestinians.

Emotional footage of Palestinians returning to Gaza as part of the first phase of the deal also emerged. Some appeared physically changed, while others were seen crying as they reunited with their relatives.

In one such incident, Palestinian female leader Khalida Jarrar, who was freed as part of the prisoner exchange deal, showed a significant change in her appearance. Her hair had turned gray, and she apparently struggled to walk.

Harrowing stories of brutality faced by Palestinians in Israeli detention have surfaced before as well.

The internet also compared the condition of hostages released from both sides, with Palestinians visibly in a worse state.

Israel Frees 90 Palestinian After Hamas Releases Hostages

People in the occupied West Bank are celebrating the release of 90 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons as a result of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

As Israeli forces ended their 15-month bombardment of the besieged territory, Palestinians in Gaza were rebuilding their destroyed homes and awaiting the delivery of desperately needed food and medical aid.

It was the first truck of what has been pledged to be 600 trucks that will enter Gaza every day in the first phase of the ceasefire.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s war on Gaza has resulted in the death of at least 46,913 Palestinians and left over 110,750 wounded. On that day itself, Hamas attacks left at least 1,139 people dead and over 200 captive in Israel.

A UN agency chief for Palestinian refugees said on Sunday the sounds of children playing could now be heard in Gaza instead of bombs after more than 470 days of fighting. Describing it as a good first day, Philippe Lazzarini said help and commercial supplies went smoothly on Sunday.

In a social media post, Lazzarini said, “The cessation of hostilities must continue, and the key components of the agreement must be fully implemented.” He called it “a step in the right direction towards long-lasting peace and stability for all.”

The ceasefire that commenced on Sunday morning raised hopes for the end of the devastating conflict and the return of nearly 100 remaining hostage-taking individuals from the Hamas attack of 7th October 2023. Nevertheless, serious concerns remain about whether fighting will resume after a six-week respite.

Hamas released hostages to Israel. Walking back from a tense handover to the Red Cross on a Gaza street, they were filmed encircled by thousands of spectators and mysteriously guarded by armed men wearing green Hamas headbands.

The women were then swept up by Israeli forces and taken into Israel, where the girls ran into the arms of their relatives. Damari raised her bandaged hand in a gesture of victory. However, the army stated that she lost two fingers in the attack on October 7.

In Tel Aviv, thousands gathered to watch the news of 90 Palestinian and Israeli prisoners on large screens and applauded as months of protests in the square for a ceasefire deal ended.

The first 90 Palestinian prisoners were released more than seven hours later. They had been detained on charges that fit the nebulous definition of threats to Israeli security. It included everything from stone-throwing to much more serious offenses like attempted murder. Well, the 90 Palestinian prisoners were freed from Israel’s prison, and this brings hope toward peace in the country.

How the Executive Orders of Donald Trump Compare to Other U.S. Presidents

In comparison, the last few US presidents have issued fewer executive orders. We have studied the history of executive orders before the Donald Trump era.

Trump is expected to start issuing multips on his first day at work, putting into action a hundred-order plan he made known to Senate Republicans on January 8th. He will take an oath as the forty-seventh president of the United States on Monday. His orders will address immigration, border control, energy production, pardons, etc.

The following are a few of the most significant presidential orders:

    • The Emancipation Proclamation (1863): The order by Lincoln outlawed slavery and set free slaves living in the Confederate states.

    • Executive Order 9066 (1942): FDR’s order permitted the relocation of 120,000 Japanese Americans, who were considered a threat to US security during World War 2.

    • Executive Order 9981 (1948): Truman abolished segregation based on ethnicity, religion, and skin color in the US armed forces.

    • Executive Order 10924 (1961): The order established the Peace Corps and was issued by John F. Kennedy.

    • Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (2012): It was introduced by Barack Obama. DACA was quietly embedded in a policy for some children who entered the US without legal status with a frequent view to giving deferred action from deportation for two years.

    • Executive Order 13769 (2017): Trump’s travel ban was known as Executive Order 13769, an executive order restricting entry into the US by certain foreign nationals. It was called a “Muslim ban” by many and quickly gained that title for what it did to constitute severe curtailments against countries with predominantly Muslim populations.

Executive Orders Donald Trump Plans to Use His First Days in Office

Donald Trump is widely expected to endorse executive orders during his first days in office.  His intention includes over one hundred executive orders, a few of which have plans for mass deportation of immigrants, undoing most of Biden’s energy policies, and similarly trying to pardon those Americans who were arrested for attending the Capitol riots, along with many others.

The First Thing On The List Seems To Be The Mass Deportation Of Migrants

According to many, Donald Trump is planning to reinstate the travel ban that was placed on Muslim countries along with some of the US-Mexico border procedures. Additionally, it has been claimed by top Trump surrogates that all operations for detaining and deporting illegal immigrants will begin from day one of the presidency.

    Domestic Energy Production

Second, there are allegations that Donald Trump plans to implement damage control measures to address Biden’s energy policies. More specifically, he plans to remove the ban on gas and oil offshore drilling, eliminate the electric car mandate, and cease the restrictions on natural gas exports.

Ravens vs Bills: Mark Andrews Under Fire for Crucial 2-Point Drop

All season long, tight end Mark Andrews has been one of the key players on the Baltimore Ravens roster. However, the team lost because of mistakes and critical miscues in their playoff game against the Buffalo Bills. Now, Josh Allen and the Bills will face the winner of the Chiefs and Bengals in the AFC Championship.

This was made possible by a Ravens defensive error. Andrews fumbled a catch on his team’s drive, attempting to score with 1:43 remaining in the game. On the next drive, he also poorly tried to make a game-turning 2-point conversion that would have tied the game at 27 but dropped it.

The media members were aware of these two incidents and reasonably expected to have the opportunity to ask the 29-year-old Mark Andrews about them. However, when they realized he would not be taking questions from reporters, some concern rose.

Andrews is legally responsible for meeting with the media after the game. However, he avoided doing so after Sunday’s defeat. According to Baltimore The Athletic reporter Jeff Zrebiec, unlike teammate Lamar Jackson, coach John Harbaugh, and some other team members, he turned down sideline involvement in response to the game.

In the following press conference, Coach Harbaugh quickly defended Andrews, who underperformed in the second half of the game. “Mark fights harder than anyone on this planet and contributes more than anybody for this team,” said Harbaugh. “None of us would have gotten this far without Mark Andrews.”

“Like anything, you have a choice in how you plan your life. Mark is a great man who always stands up for the right values.” He expressed his pride in Mark, saying, “Mark being so focused and driven all along is wonderful.”

Mark Andrews’ Girlfriend Received Hate From Fans

After Andrew’s poor performance in the match, his girlfriend became the target of criticism from the fans. She made a recent post on her Instagram, and people quickly unleashed their hatred onto that post as her comments section was still open. A few comments were meant in humor. However, most comments were out of line and quite nasty, especially for someone not involved in any aspect of the match. Ultimately, she decided to hide the post’s comment section.

Bowen Yang Brings Back Georges Santos on ‘SNL’

Comedian Bowen Yang comes back in chief of staff George Santos during the cold cap of SnL on January 20th, 2024. Many people were waiting for Yang’s return so that his cynical attitudes could finally be expressed. This impression of George Santos made fun of all the conflicts that Santos had created for himself over the years, and he did so in a manner only Bowen Yang could do.

The SNL open started with a remake of a Santos press conference. Using his trademark humor, Bowen Yang turned the press conference into a perceived comedy where George Santos retook the central character role. His impression focuses on using advanced body language, where Santos comes across as an innocent fraud with an overly dramatic, concealed evil accent. It shows how deep the self-loathing of this person goes.

    Political Humor at Its Best

SNL has been known for its political humor, particularly in the aftermath of the Trump administration. However, its relevance has been sustained by timely and harsh narratives about contemporary political figures.  SNL had returned to Yang’s Santos impression, proving that the show could still make the most of the ongoing escapade of Santos in Congress. The impression was based on multiple broadcasts in the mainstream media about that politician’s opposing personas.

Bowen Yang’s portrayal shows the absurdity of fake and often scandal-ridden modern political personalities. In a glorious moment, Yang’s Santos glorified himself as the “best liar ever.” Meanwhile, he denied the numerous allegations against him to a hilariously incredulous audience at the press conference. The comedy segment ended with Santos offering a unique, nonsensical argument for his actions, all while basking in another sense of grandiosity that rendered it all the more hilarious.

Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers Share Which Movie They Think Is the “Best of 2024”

In the January 15 episode of the Las Culturistas podcast, Bowen Yang and Rogers discussed their impressions of watching The Substance. It is a sci-fi/body horror film starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley that impressed them so much they call it their “favorite movie of the year” or maybe the “best movie of 2024.” But Bowen Yang noted further that “Except with projects we’ve been involved in,” a nod to his involvement in Wicked.

One awkward term after the other, Yang described the production, saying, “This camp doesn’t paint a disgusting picture of the good and bad. In a way, one can define it as it is throughout the film.” “The dialogue, oh my god, this is a reverie. It is dreamlike…in such a calibrated manner.”

During their conversation, the two also conveyed their deepest sympathies for the “horrendous” fires raging across Los Angeles. Rogers said, “I just want to send all our love and strength to all who have been affected and to everyone who will be affected…I mean, this is just tragic.”
