Military’s stance unchanged about May 9, responsible must be punished: DG ISPR

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmad has stated that the military’s views on May 9 are the same as before, and those responsible for the May 9 events must be brought to justice.

“There has been no change in that nor there will be,” the military spokesperson asserted referring to the military’s stance about May 9.

He also recalled last week’s government notification in which the TTP was declared as “Fitna al-Khawarij” for distorting the image of Islam.

The DG ISPR also warned that those involved in “digital terrorism” will be punished because they want to drive a wedge between the armed forces and the people of Pakistan.

“The law is not taking its course against it, but the armed forces take it very seriously,” he stated that legal action would be taken against those involved.

Talking about the recent protests by Baloch Yakjehti Committee, he said, “In the guise of a peaceful march, BYC protestors are committing violence against forces.”

Azma Bukhari slams FIA cybercrime wing for ‘incompetence’; requests PM to shut it down

Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Azma Bukhari has lashed out at the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime wing for incompetence while requesting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to shut it down.

Talking to media outside the Lahore High Court (LHC), Bukhari expressed her trust in Chief Justice Aalia Neelum, she said, “I think that the Chief Justice wants to get to the bottom of this matter.”

A few days ago, an explicit fake video of the minister was circulated online, which received widespread condemnation.

Bukhari stated, “FIA cyber wing has no expertise in its field, and it is not worth it. Cybercrime does not know anything, and they do not know what they are supposed to do.”

She also said that, ever since a “fitna” party came to light, these kinds of incidents have become common, a thinly veiled dig at arch-rivals Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Bukhari also stated that her party and personal ethics disallow her from making such fake videos; otherwise, she would know how to do such things.

    Update

In a new twist to the story, police claim that the murder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding member Dr Shahid Siddique was planned by his son.

Siddique was shot dead in Valencia Town, Lahore, on August 2 when he was returning from the mosque after offering Friday prayers. His son was present at the crime scene but remained unhurt.

Police alleged that Siddique’s son, Qayyum, planned his father’s murder with a friend because he wasn’t allowed to marry a girl of his choice by his father.

Qayyum had made a deal of Rs. 5 million for the murder of his father in January for the same reason, said police, adding he paid Rs20 million for the second attack on Siddiqui. Dr Shahid was attacked in January as well, but police remained unsuccessful in finding the culprits at the time.

Police said that the same son who was the mastermind behind the murder led his father’s funeral prayer.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) official page on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, announced the cancellation of the basic party membership of maverick leader Sher Afzal Marwat for a “gross violation/ breach” of discipline.

In an interesting development, however, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has termed the notification “fake” even though the post still hasn’t been removed from the party’s social media platforms.

“The notification regarding cancellation of Sher Afzal Marwat’s membership is fake. It’s not possible,” stated Gohar, clearly signalling rifts within the party leadership over Marwat’s future.

In the notification, it was said that Marwat was on notice and was asked to “restrict himself, and his statements to within the limitation as outlined in the letter. A committee was setup to monitor his statements, media appearances and tweets.”

It further stated that if Marwat was an honourable person he would resign from the NA seat because he won as a nominated PTI candidate and seek re-election.

Meanwhile, Marwat has accepted the party notification on X, saying, “I respect the party’s decision, but let me make one thing clear: I was Khan’s soldier.”

He also stated that Khan had been misguided about him and that he would clarify his position in front of Imran Khan.

Imran Khan signals that PTI ready to talk with establishment

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned in Adiala jail, has categorically signalled that his party was ready for talks with the military establishment, Dawn News has reported.

However, while talking to reporters at Adiala jail, Khan set three preconditions for the talks: the return of PTI’s alleged ‘stolen mandate’, the release of all of the party workers currently detained, and transparent elections.

Earlier, Khan’s sister Aleema Khan delivered a message from Imran Khan to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir to “become neutral for the sake of Pakistan.” In 2022, Khan repeatedly berated the army’s leadership for being “neutral”, repeatedly saying that only animals are neutral.

Khan stated that his party has never levelled allegations against the army, saying that even a “spoilt child” was liable to criticism.

He also recalled that General Ziaul Haq was responsible for the judicial murder of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, and General Yahya Khan was responsible for the fall of Dhaka.

Khan stated that the party had already nominated Mehmood Khan Achakzai for negotiations and urged the military to nominate their representative for talks.

A District & Sessions Court in Islamabad has sent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) secretary information Raoof Hasan on a 14-day judicial remand in the anti-state propaganda case.

The court also rejected the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) request for an extended five-day physical remand.

Last week, Raoof and 11 other PTI members were arrested for handling the party’s media cell, allegedly responsible for spreading malicious propaganda against the state.

In today’s court hearing, the FIA prosecutor stated, “We need a further five-day remand to investigate a technical report,” which showed that all PTI’s digital media cell members were in contact with one another.

Meanwhile, Hasan’s legal counsel argued that his health was deteriorating because he’d been in physical remand for seven days.

“I am with Khan and for his cause. After May 9, whatever jalsas and conventions I did, it was for the right cause, I have never benefitted personally from PTI,” stated Marwat.

Marwat recalled that he came to the forefront only with his own consent for the people’s “haqeeqi azadi” and Khan’s mission.

He stated, “When misunderstandings increased to such an extent that my party membership was suspended, and they decide to kick me out of the party, I will leave.”

Marwat said he still wants to work with party founder Imran Khan; however, he won’t beg to be taken back.
